Section 45-13-120 Compensation; election; oath and bond; office space, equipment; chief clerk; powers and duties; issuance of licenses; disposition of funds. (a)(1) Effective October 1, 1991, there is hereby created the office of commissioner of licenses. The salary of the commissioner of licenses shall be in the amount of thirty-six thousand dollars ($36,000) annually. The annual salary shall be payable in equal biweekly installments from the general funds of the county, as all other county employees are paid. (a) There is hereby created within the Revenue Commissioner's Office of Blount County a license division which shall issue all motor vehicle licenses issued through the revenue commissioner's office. Section 2-29-4 Bonds of commission merchants; institution of civil actions upon bonds. Before any permit shall be issued, the applicant therefor shall make and execute to the State of Alabama a surety bond in the penal sum of $1,000.00, said bond to be filed in the office of the commissioner. (a) Any person, including a motor vehicle dealer, acquiring a new or used motor vehicle may be granted a grace period of 20 calendar days from date of acquisition to procure a license tag or plate.
