Section 16-44A-31 Citizenship Trust established. (a) The State of Alabama hereby establishes and authorizes the Citizenship Trust, herein referred to as the "trust." (b) The purpose of the trust is to strengthen and renew the foundation of American liberty and self-government through citizenship education. The trust shall provide students with high quality educational programs, learning experiences, and resources inside and outside the classroom which enhance their understanding and appreciation of the principles of American citizenship, and knowledge of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and other essential foundations of the American Republic, and which encourage them to serve and lead their communities, state, and nation as active, responsible, informed, and law-abiding citizens. Section 36-26-14 Deferred compensation plans for certain employees. (a) The personnel board may adopt, establish, and maintain a deferred compensation plan or plans, except under Internal Revenue Code Section 403 (b), for the employees of the State of Alabama or any city, town, county, or public entity or corporation organized pursuant to the laws of this state. Notwithstanding the foregoing, prior to the employees of a county or political subdivision of the county participating in a plan, the employing county or political subdivision of the county shall approve participation in the plan. (a) Participation in the Alabama State Employee Combined Charitable Campaign shall be limited to voluntary, charitable, health and human care federations and agencies with a substantial local presence that provide or support direct health and welfare services to individuals or their families and meet the criteria set forth in this section.
