Section 36-27-4 Membership - Generally; denial of membership; absence from service; military service. (a) The membership of the retirement system shall be composed as follows: (1) All persons who shall become employees after October 1, 1945, shall become members of the retirement system as a condition of their employment. (2) Any person who is an employee on October 1, 1945, shall become a member as of that date unless, within a period of 90 days next following, such employee shall file with the Board of Control on a form prescribed by the board a notice of his or her election not to be covered in the membership of the system and a duly executed waiver of all present and prospective benefits which would otherwise inure to him or her on account of his or her membership in the retirement system. Section 40-2B-2 Alabama Tax Tribunal. (a) Statement of Purpose. To increase public confidence in the fairness of the state tax system, the state shall provide an independent agency with tax expertise to resolve disputes between the Department of Revenue and taxpayers, prior to requiring the payment of the amounts in issue or the posting of a bond, but after the taxpayer has had a full opportunity to attempt settlement with the Department of Revenue based, among other things, on the hazards of litigation. By establishing an independent Alabama Tax Tribunal within the executive branch of government, this chapter provides taxpayers with a means of resolving controversies that insures both the appearance and the reality of due process and fundamental fairness. (a) An operator's license issued under this chapter, whether for horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering thereon or for greyhound racing and pari-mutuel wagering thereon, shall be for an initial period of 20 years, but shall be subject to renewal as provided in this section.
