Section 45-13-120 Compensation; election; oath and bond; office space, equipment; chief clerk; powers and duties; issuance of licenses; disposition of funds. (a)(1) Effective October 1, 1991, there is hereby created the office of commissioner of licenses. The salary of the commissioner of licenses shall be in the amount of thirty-six thousand dollars ($36,000) annually. The annual salary shall be payable in equal biweekly installments from the general funds of the county, as all other county employees are paid. Section 45-10-111.01 Compensation for returning officers; mileage allowance. (a) This section shall apply only to Cherokee County. (b) All returning officers, as appointed by the local appointing board, the judge of probate, sheriff, and circuit clerk, shall receive an additional compensation of ten dollars ($10) and shall receive the same mileage allowance for travel as the state mileage allowance provided for in Section 36-7-22, from the location of the polling place to the courthouse and return. Upon receiving the certificate provided for in Section 17-8-3, the remaining members of the appointing board shall forthwith and without delay appoint a qualified elector to take the place of each member of the appointing board who is a candidate for election, and shall cause the elector so appointed to be informed of his or her appointment.
