Section 17-2-4 Voting system requirements; vote standards; uniform polling system; purchase
of equipment. (a) On or before January 1, 2005, each voting system used in an election shall
meet the following requirements: (1) The voting system shall: a. Permit the voter to verify,
in a private and independent manner, the votes selected by the voter on the ballot before
the ballot is cast and counted. b. Provide the voter with the opportunity, in a private and
independent manner, to change the ballot or correct any error before the ballot is cast and
counted, including the opportunity to correct the error through the issuance of a replacement
ballot if the voter was otherwise unable to change the ballot or correct any error. c. If
the voter selects votes for more than one candidate for a single office: 1. Notify the voter

Section 17-1-2 Definitions. For the purposes of this title, the following terms shall have
the definitions ascribed to them: (1) APPOINTING BOARD. In all elections the appointing board
consists of the judge of probate, circuit clerk, and sheriff of the county. (2) BALLOT. The

Section 17-13-14 Counting of ballots; materials to be sealed; delivery and retention of materials;
posting of certificate of result. (a) No ballot shall be counted until the polls are closed;
and, before counting any ballot or examining the same, the voters' poll list, as provided

assistance in voting may receive assistance from any person the voter chooses except the voter's

Section 17-4-33 Computerized statewide voter registration list. (a) The State of Alabama shall
provide, through the Secretary of State, a nondiscriminatory, single, uniform, official, centralized,
interactive computerized statewide voter registration list defined, maintained, and administered

Section 17-5-7 Use of excess moneys received; solicitation, etc., of contributions. (a) Except
as provided in subsection (d) and in Section 17-5-7.1, a candidate, public official, or treasurer
