Section 16-8-5 Compensation. The members of the county board of education shall receive
from the public school funds of the county $7.50 a day and their actual traveling and hotel
expenses incurred in attending meetings of the board and transacting the business of the board.
The members of the county board shall not be allowed pay for more than 24 days in any one
year, and their expenses shall be paid in like manner as provided for the compensation of
teachers; provided, that in counties having a population of 600,000 persons or more according
to the last or any succeeding federal census, members of the county board of education shall

Section 28-3-190 Levy of tax; collection; disposition of proceeds by localities; enforcement
and administration; penalties; exclusive nature of tax. (a) Levy. In addition to the excise
tax levied by Article 5A of Chapter 3 of this title and the licenses provided for by Chapter
3A of this title and by Section 28-3-194, and any acts amendatory thereof, supplementary
thereto or substituted therefor, and municipal and county licenses, there is hereby levied
a privilege or excise tax on every person licensed under the provisions of Chapter 3A who
sells, stores, or receives for the purpose of distribution, to any person, firm, corporation,

Section 16-3-9 Expense allowance for members. (a) Each member of the State Board of
Education shall be entitled to an expense allowance of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500)
per month which shall be in addition to the per diem compensation and actual traveling and
other necessary expenses incurred in attending meetings and transacting business of the board,
