Section 16-4-21 Inventory; federal grants; special studies. The State Superintendent of Education shall make an inventory of all school buildings and sites and keep a continuous inventory of the same thereafter, cooperate with county and city boards of education in securing federal grants to assist in school building construction by making special studies of school building needs on request of local school authorities and making the same available to the proper federal agencies and make special studies presenting the need of public education in Alabama for general federal aid for the support of the public schools and shall make the same available to appropriate federal agencies. The Board of Trustees of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind, upon the recommendation of the president, may select and adopt for use in the tax-supported public elementary and high school programs at the institute, textbooks and instructional materials, other than prescribed by the State Board of Education, which are suitable for the needs of deaf and blind students.
