Section 16-51-15 Scholarships to school of nursing - Amount and conditions; selection of recipients. Each scholarship provided for by this chapter shall be in the amount of $600.00 per year, payable from funds appropriated to the School of Nursing of the University of North Alabama for this purpose. A scholarship may either be renewed by the said school of nursing for the same student or awarded to another applicant for the scholarship. Appropriate competitive examinations of aptitude and ability shall be administered to the applicants by the school of nursing. The results of the examinations shall be used as guides in the selection of the recipients of the scholarships from the various geographical areas of the state. In case a scholarship student fails to complete the course prescribed for the baccalaureate degree in nursing, that student must repay the amount of the scholarship funds used. (a) Scholarships extended under subdivisions (1) and (3) of subsection (a) of Section 16-47-78 shall be repaid following graduation either in cash as is provided under subsection (b) or under the terms of a contract to serve in a needy area in Alabama for a term to be specified by the board as provided in subsection (c).
