Section 16-47-126 Repayment of loans by performing certain services. The loan or any part thereof shall be repaid by engaging in full-time clinical practice, as defined in the regulations of the board, in one of the following ways, in accordance with a contract approved by the Board of Medical Scholarship Awards: (1) Practice for a period equal to one year of practice for each year the individual received a loan in a community of less than 5,000 population which is in an area within Alabama identified by the board as medically underserved. (2) Practice for a period equal to one and one-fourth years of practice for each year the individual received a loan in a community of more than 5,000 population and less than 15,000 population which is in an area within Alabama identified by the board as medically underserved. Section 16-47-124 Types of awards. There shall be two types of awards as follows: (1) LOANS. A number of loans equal in number to 20 percent of the student body of the medical schools in the State of Alabama, each in an amount of up to the average cost of tuition, fees, and living expenses, as set forth in the current catalogs of the University of Alabama School of Medicine or the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, for the year of each enrollment.
