Section 16-6B-3 Assistance programs. (a) Student strategy. The superintendent of the local board of education along with the staff of each school shall develop an assistance program at each school for at-risk students performing below the standards set by the State Board of Education. The standards shall include the results of the required assessment program adopted by the State Board of Education with emphasis on students who are found to be at one or more grade levels below the prescribed norm. The local board of education shall budget at least one hundred dollars ($100) per student so identified to be expended on tutorial assistance programs including, but not limited to, after-school, Saturday school, or summer school, or any combination of these programs. These funds may be budgeted from state or federal funds. Section 16-1-20.5 Protection of student religious liberties. (a) This section shall be known and may be cited as the "Alabama Student Religious Liberties Act of 2015." (b) A public local board of education may not discriminate against students or parents on the basis of a religious viewpoint or religious expression. (a) The board of trustees or any other governing body of a public institution of higher education as defined in Section 16-5-1 may establish a program which provides students enrolled at the institution with debit cards issued by the institution. (a) Beginning in the 2000-2001 school year, any public school student in this state who is required by statute or regulation of the State Department of Education to be tested or assessed by Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) or any other assessment used by the school system who scores or is assessed at a range of one grade below any subject or subjects, or falls below the average of the school system assessment shall be provided tutoring programs for reading skills and other subjects by the department. Section 16-1-50 Possession and use of over-the-counter sunscreen by students. (a) Any student in a public school under the jurisdiction of a local board of education or in a nonpublic school may possess and apply federal Food and Drug Administration regulated over-the-counter sunscreen at school and at school-based events notwithstanding any other provision of law, including any rule of the State Board of Education or the State Board of Nursing.
