Section 24-1A-2 Definitions. The following words and phrases used in this chapter, and others evidently intended as the equivalent thereof, shall, in the absence of clear implication otherwise, have the following respective meanings: (1) AUTHORITY. The public corporation and instrumentality of the state organized pursuant to the provisions of this chapter. (2) AUTHORIZED INVESTMENTS. Bonds or other obligations of, or guaranteed by, the United States of America or the state; interest bearing bank and savings and loan association deposits; obligations of any agency of the United States of America; any obligations in which a state chartered savings and loan association may invest its funds; any agreement to repurchase any of the foregoing; or any combination thereof. (a) In the discretion of the board of directors of an authority, any bonds may be secured by an indenture between an authority and a trustee, which may be any trust company or bank having trust powers, whether such trust company or bank is located within or without the state. (a) The Legislature finds that textbooks and other instructional materials are among the basic tools of learning that must exist if Alabama students are to succeed. (b) All students in the public schools shall be provided with adequate and current textbooks and other necessary instructional supplies for use in their education. Textbooks and other supporting materials shall be appropriate for their course work and shall be in suitable condition.
