each of the following: (1) The children of Mobile County have the right to an effective public
school education. Both students and staff of the primary, elementary, junior, and senior high
school campuses have the constitutional right to be safe and secure in their persons at school.
However, children in many of our public schools are forced to focus on the threat of violence
and the messages of violence contained in many aspects of our society, particularly reflected

2007-2008 scholastic year, each local board of education and the governing body of each nonpublic
school in the state shall permit the self-administration of medications by a student for chronic
conditions if conducted in compliance with the State Department of Education and State Board
of Nursing Medication Curriculum, as may be amended from time to time by the department and

Section 16-6D-4 Definitions. For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall
