Section 16-26A-4 Board of directors generally. (a) There is hereby created a board of directors for the school, sometimes hereinafter referred to as the "board." The board shall be composed of 21 members as follows: (1) The State Department of Education assistant state superintendent in charge of curriculum development, or his or her designee. Section 16-25-10.6 Elected superintendent of education; cost of coverage; purchase of prior service credit. Any person now serving as an elected superintendent of education in this state may become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama within 90 days after the ratification of an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama 1901 allowing elected superintendents of education to participate in the Teachers' Retirement System, subject to such rules and regulations as may be promulgated by the Board of Control of said system. (a) In making apportionment of the Public School Fund held by the state, to the local boards of education, the State Superintendent of Education shall first set apart and distribute to the schools of each township the amount due from the state thereto as interest on its sixteenth section fund, or other trust fund held by the state.
