Section 16-24-61 Contracts for part-time employment. Public school teachers, whether or not tenured, may contract with local boards of education to work less than full time so long as their salaries reflect employment for less than a full day, week, or contract year and are commensurate with the salary schedule hourly rate of pay adopted by the Legislature, based on their educational attainment and experience; provided however, that any part-time teacher receiving benefits from the Teachers' Retirement System shall conform to the criteria and prescribed limits for outside income as provided in subsection (a) of Section 16-25-26. Teachers employed in any part-time capacity shall meet the certification requirements established by the State Board of Education to teach the grade or subject for which they are employed and shall comply with the provisions of Chapter 22A, of this title.
