Section 13A-9-150 Public assistance fraud; penalties. (a) For the purposes of this section, public assistance means money or property provided directly or indirectly to eligible persons through programs of the federal government, the state, or any political subdivision thereof, including any program administered by a public housing authority. (a)(1) The State Board of Medical Examiners on its own motion may investigate any evidence which appears to show that a physician or osteopath holding a certificate of qualification to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama is or may be guilty of any of the acts, offenses, or conditions set out in Section 34-24-360. As part of its investigation, the board may require a criminal history background check of the physician or osteopath. In such event, the physician or osteopath shall submit a complete set of fingerprints to the State Board of Medical Examiners. Section 16-61C-6 Superintendent to allocate grant funds; recoupment of replaced state funds. In the event that in any fiscal year prior to the complete expansion of the ASIM Program, grant funds are received as funding support for the ASIM Program, the State Superintendent of Education shall allocate the grant funds in an equitable manner among the several ASIM Program networks to replace a like amount of state funds.
