Section 16-5-1 Definitions. The following terms shall have the meanings respectively prescribed
for them, except when the context otherwise requires: (1) PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION.
Those public educational institutions in Alabama which have been authorized by the Legislature
or by the constitution to provide formal education, including vocational, technical, collegiate,
professional or any other form of education, above the secondary school level. (2) COMMISSION.
The Alabama Commission on Higher Education created by this article. (3) INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM.
A series of courses at any one location which culminates in a degree, certificate or other
formal recognition of academic credit. (4) UNIT. A school, college, division or institute

Section 16-6B-1 Student achievement. (a) The Legislature finds that the people of Alabama desire
two basic things from their public schools: (1) High achievement for students. (2) A safe
and orderly environment in which to learn. (b) The Legislature encourages the State Board
of Education to assist local boards of education in the development of a strong disciplinary
policy and directs the State Board of Education to develop a program to closely monitor student

Section 16-1-49 Information on influenza and it vaccine to be provided to parents and guardians

diseases, medications, or other school health issues to parents and guardians of students

five-year plan referred to above, each school board shall submit a long-range plan for providing
appropriate instruction and special services for exceptional children and shall submit said
