Section 16-60-4 Athens State University; powers generally. The school established at Athens, Alabama, known as and called Athens State College, is and shall remain a body corporate under the corporate name of Athens State University, and by that name may have and exercise all powers previously enjoyed by Athens State College and shall succeed to all the rights, privileges, obligations, liabilities, emoluments, benefits, interests, and titles at any time vested in the institution in its respective names. None of the powers, authority, obligations, liabilities, or functions of the institution shall be abated or impaired by this section. Only the name of the institution shall be changed by this section. Whenever the institution is referred to in the constitution, laws, rules, or regulations of this state, or any instrumentality of this state, by any one of the respective names by which it has been known, the same shall be considered to refer to Athens State University. (a) A person commits the crime of a school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19 years if he or she is a school employee and engages in sexual contact, as defined by Section 13A-6-60, with a student, regardless of whether the student is male or female.
