Section 16-25-11.9 Purchase of credit for employment as court reporters, school support personnel, or local mental health authority workers. (a) Any active and contributing member of the Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama who, prior to October 1, 1993, was a regular full-time employee as an official court reporter with a circuit court in the state or a full-time employee of a local mental health authority or school support personnel, shall be eligible to receive credit for such employment provided that the member claiming the credit shall have worked not less than 10 consecutive years as an official court reporter, and complies with the conditions prescribed in subsection (b). (a) In addition to all other appropriations and apportionments of public school money now provided by law and made available for public schools there shall be apportioned and paid to local boards of education from the Foundation Program Fund, the amounts to be determined as hereinafter provided and in accordance with regulations of the State Board of Education. (a)(1) The State Board of Medical Examiners on its own motion may investigate any evidence which appears to show that a physician or osteopath holding a certificate of qualification to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama is or may be guilty of any of the acts, offenses, or conditions set out in Section 34-24-360. As part of its investigation, the board may require a criminal history background check of the physician or osteopath. In such event, the physician or osteopath shall submit a complete set of fingerprints to the State Board of Medical Examiners. (a) It is the intent of the Legislature that the State of Alabama shall modify its policies relative to the certification of teachers to permit an expanded alternative certification program for prospective teachers for grades six through 12.
