Section 16-56-12 Police officers. (a) The Chancellor of Troy University may appoint and employ persons as he or she may deem proper to serve as police officers pursuant to Sections 16-22-1 and 16-22-2. These police officers may do any of the following: (1) Eject trespassers from university buildings and grounds. (2) Arrest without a warrant any person believed guilty of disorderly conduct or of trespass upon the property under the control of the university, or for any public offense committed in their presence, and carry them before the nearest district court or municipal court. Upon proper affidavit charging the offense, the person arrested may be tried by the court and convicted as in cases of persons brought before the court on a warrant. (3) Summon a posse comitatus. (4) Arrest with a warrant any person found upon or near the premises of the university charged with any public offense and take that person before the proper officer.
