Section 34-13A-8 Exemptions. This chapter does not apply to any of the following: (1) Any individual licensed by the state to practice in a profession other than that of a genetic counselor, when acting within the scope of his or her profession and doing work of a nature consistent with his or her training. The individual may not hold himself or herself out to the public as a genetic counselor. (2) Any physician licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in this state. (3) Any individual who is certified by ABMGG as a doctor of philosophy medical geneticist before December 31, 2018. (4) Any individual employed as a genetic counselor by the federal government or an agency thereof, if the individual provides genetic counseling services solely under the direction and control of the organization through which he or she is employed.
