Section 21-1-12 Lists of deaf and blind children within counties; enforcement of attendance of children eligible for benefits of school. It shall be the duty of the county superintendent of education in each county of Alabama to furnish annually to the attendance officer of his county and the president of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind a list of the deaf and blind children of his county with the name, sex, age, and address of each, together with the name and address of the parent or guardian of each child, such information to be secured from the school census enumeration books of the county or from any other reliable source, and the attendance officer shall visit the home of each child not later than five days after the opening date of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind, as published by the president of this institution by giving written notice to each county superintendent of education and each city superintendent of education in Alabama. (a) Fingerprints of a child who has been charged with a delinquent act shall be taken by the law enforcement agency taking the child into custody. The prints may be retained in a local file and a copy shall be filed with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. (b) If latent fingerprints are found during the investigation of a delinquent act and a law enforcement officer has reason to believe that they are those of the child in custody, the officer may fingerprint the child regardless of age or delinquent act for purpose of immediate comparison with the latent fingerprints.
