Section 13A-13-4 Nonsupport. (a) A man or woman commits the crime of nonsupport if he or she intentionally fails to provide support which that person is able to provide and which that person knows he or she is legally obligated to provide to a dependent spouse or child less than 19 years of age. (b) "Support" includes but is not limited to food, shelter, clothing, medical attention and other necessary care, as determined elsewhere by law. (c) "Child" includes a child born out of wedlock whose paternity has been admitted by the actor or has been established in a civil suit. (d) Nonsupport is a Class A misdemeanor. Section 16-6D-9 Tax credit claims; administrative accountability; verification of requirements; rules and procedures. (a)(1) An individual taxpayer who files a state income tax return and is not claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer, a taxpayer subject to the corporate income tax levied by Chapter 18 of Title 40, an Alabama S corporation as defined in Section 40-18-160, or a Subchapter K entity as defined in Section 40-18-1 may claim a credit for a contribution made to a scholarship granting organization.
