Section 36-25-3 State Ethics Commission - Creation, composition; annual reports; compensation; political activities; director; personnel. (a) There is hereby created a State Ethics Commission composed of five members, each of whom shall be a fair, equitable citizen of this state and of high moral character and ability. The following persons shall not be eligible to be appointed as members: (1) a public official; (2) a candidate; (3) a registered lobbyist and his or her principal; or (4) a former employee of the commission. No member of the commission shall be eligible for reappointment to succeed himself or herself. Section 40-2B-2 Alabama Tax Tribunal. (a) Statement of Purpose. To increase public confidence in the fairness of the state tax system, the state shall provide an independent agency with tax expertise to resolve disputes between the Department of Revenue and taxpayers, prior to requiring the payment of the amounts in issue or the posting of a bond, but after the taxpayer has had a full opportunity to attempt settlement with the Department of Revenue based, among other things, on the hazards of litigation. Section 45-49A-81.12 Benefits for widows and orphans. (a) In the event of the death of a married employee and if at the time of such death the employee (1) is in the active employment of the city, or (2) is receiving a pension either for disability or for longevity from the city a pension shall be paid to his or her spouse.
