Section 36-27-57 Purchase of credit for prior service with district attorney. (a) Whenever words and phrases defined in Section 36-27-1 are used in this section, they shall have the same meanings ascribed to them in that section unless the context clearly indicates that a different meaning is intended. (b) Any active and contributing member of the Employees' Retirement System may elect to purchase credit for any service rendered to any district attorney within the State of Alabama prior to May 4, 1982, the effective date of Section 36-29-1, notwithstanding any document heretofore executed which was signed waiving the right to purchase the service. (c) Any employee electing to purchase service credit pursuant to subsection (b) shall remit to the Secretary-Treasurer of the Retirement System of Alabama, within one year of October 1, 1996, for each year of service credit, a percentage of his or her current annual earnable compensation or average final compensation, whichever is greater;...
