Section 16-1-51.1 Comprehensive model policy for supervision and monitoring of juvenile sex offender students; educational placement of juvenile sex offenders. (a)(1) On or before January 1, 2019, the State Board of Education shall develop a comprehensive model policy for the supervision and monitoring of juvenile sex offender students, who have a low risk of re-offense and are enrolled, attending class, and participating in school activities with the general population of students. The purpose of the model policy is to provide a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. The model policy shall be adopted by each local board of education and implemented beginning with the 2020-2021 school year. The model policy, at a minimum, shall contain all of the following components: a. Section 15-20A-3 Applicability. (a) This chapter is applicable to every adult sex offender convicted of a sex offense as defined in Section 15-20A-5, without regard to when his or her crime or crimes were committed or his or her duty to register arose. Section 12-15-117 Retention and termination of jurisdiction generally. (a) Once a child has been adjudicated dependent, delinquent, or in need of supervision, jurisdiction of the juvenile court shall terminate when the child becomes 21 years of age unless, prior thereto, the judge of the juvenile court terminates its jurisdiction by explicitly stating in a written order that it is terminating jurisdiction over the case involving the child. Section 12-15-217 Notice of delinquent acts. (a) Notwithstanding subsection (a) of Section 12-15-133, written notice that a child enrolled in a school, kindergarten to grade 12, has been found delinquent of an act which if committed by an adult would be a Class A or B felony or any other crime, at the discretion of the juvenile court, shall be provided within seven days to the superintendent of the school district of attendance, or, if the child attends a private school, to the principal of the school.
