Section 8-3-15 Court in which complaints filed. In cases not otherwise provided for in this
chapter, complaints must be filed in the circuit court of the county in which the parties,
or any of them, against whom the complaint is filed reside or, if they are nonresidents or

Section 11-51-186 Taxpayer rights; responsibilities of municipality; abatement of penalty.
(a) Rights of the taxpayer. (1) At or before the commencement of an examination of the books
and records of a taxpayer, the taxing jurisdiction shall provide to the taxpayer a written
description, in simple and non-technical terms, of the role of the taxing jurisdiction and
the taxpayer during the examination and a statement of the taxpayer's rights. (2) At or before
the issuance of a preliminary assessment, the taxing jurisdiction shall provide to the taxpayer
in simple and non-technical terms: a. A written description of the basis for the assessment
and any penalty asserted with respect to the assessment. b. A written description of the method
by which the taxpayer may request an administrative review of the preliminary assessment.

Section 12-11-30 Generally. (1) CIVIL. The circuit court shall have exclusive original jurisdiction
of all civil actions in which the matter in controversy exceeds twenty thousand dollars ($20,000),

Section 12-21-246 Subpoena of witnesses - Execution. (a) In criminal cases, at the request
of the state, or the defendant or the defendant's attorney, the clerk of the court must issue
subpoenas for witnesses whose address shall be given by the person requesting the subpoena,
specifying therein the time and place for their appearance, the title of the case and at whose
instance the witness is summoned, and commanding the witness to appear in conformity therewith
and give testimony. (b) No subpoena shall issue for a witness residing more than 100 miles

Section 15-20A-4 Definitions. For purposes of this chapter, the following words shall have
the following meanings: (1) ADULT SEX OFFENDER. A person convicted of a sex offense. (2) CHILD.

Section 25-4-92 Appeals tribunals - Appointment; procedure; when decisions final. (a) To hear
and decide disputed claims and other due process cases involving a division of the Department
of Labor, the secretary shall appoint one or more impartial appeals tribunals, consisting
in each instance of an officer or an employee of the Department of Labor. The appeals tribunals

Section 34-21-126 Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators. (a) The
party states hereby create and establish a joint public entity known as the Interstate Commission
of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators. (1) The commission is an instrumentality of the

Section 40-21-26 Local taxes on franchises and intangibles. Every individual, association,
partnership, company, and corporation engaged in any business embraced or set out in the preceding
sections shall, in addition to the ad valorem taxes on the tangible property which are now
imposed upon them by law, annually pay to the state a tax for each year on their franchises
