Section 40-14-41 (Not Effective After December 31, 1999) Levy on foreign corporations. (a) Amount of levy. Every corporation organized under the laws of any other state, nation, or territory and doing business in this state, except strictly benevolent, educational, or religious corporations, shall pay annually to the state an annual franchise tax of three dollars ($3) on each one thousand dollars ($1,000) of the actual amount of its capital employed in this state. Corporations which have qualified to do business in this state shall for the purpose of this title prima facie be held to be doing business in Alabama. However, in no event shall the amount paid by any corporation for annual franchise tax be less than the sum of twenty-five dollars ($25). (b) Definition of capital. (a) In addition to all other taxes imposed by law, there is hereby levied a privilege or license tax in the amount hereinafter prescribed against every person engaging in Greene County in the business of renting or furnishing any room or rooms, lodging, or accommodations, to any transient in any hotel, motel, inn, tourist court, or any other place in which rooms, lodgings, or accommodations are regularly furnished to transients for a consideration. Section 5-5A-44 Acquisition of majority of voting shares of a bank; procedure. (a) No person, acting directly or indirectly or through or in concert with one or more persons, may acquire control of a state bank or of any corporation or other entity having control of a state bank, unless an application is filed with the superintendent for review of the proposed transaction and for his or her action, if any, as provided in this section. Effective October 1, 1997, all the assets of the retirement system shall be credited according to the purpose for which they are held among three funds, namely: The Annuity Savings Fund, the Pension Accumulation Fund, and the Expense Fund. (a) The corporation and any local subdivision are hereby respectively authorized to enter into with each other one or more lease agreements whereunder a project or any part thereof shall be leased by the corporation to such local subdivision for a term not longer than the then current fiscal year of such local subdivision, but any such lease agreement may contain a grant to such local subdivision of successive options of renewing the said lease agreement on the terms specified therein for any subsequent fiscal year or years of such local subdivision.
