Section 33-13-1 Definitions. The following words and phrases, wherever used in this chapter,
and others evidently intended as the equivalent thereof, shall, in the absence of clear implication
otherwise, be given the following respective interpretations herein: (1) AUTHORITY. The public
corporation organized pursuant to the provisions of this chapter under the name Alabama Port
Authority. (2) BOARD. The board of directors of the authority. (3) BONDS. The bonds issued
under the provisions of this chapter. (4) PERSON. Unless limited to a natural person by the
context in which it is used, such term includes a public or private corporation organized
under the laws of Alabama or of another state, a municipality, a county or an agency, department
or instrumentality of a county or municipality of one or more of the several states or of

Section 9-3-18 Public governmental entities, political subdivisions, etc., authorized to make
donations to organizations deemed public in nature. (a) It is the intent of the Legislature
that this section provides assistance to organized volunteer fire departments and organized
search, air, and rescue squads including South Alabama Air Rescue, Incorporated, and other
nonprofit organizations which provide search, air, or rescue services to the public. The Legislature
deems these organizations public in nature, as they protect the health, safety, and welfare

Section 22-21-171 Purpose and construction of article. It is the intention of the Legislature
by the passage of this article to authorize in each of the several counties of the state the
organization of a public corporation or corporations for the purpose of acquiring, owning
and operating public hospitals and other health-care and related facilities in the county
