Section 45-5-141.20 Powers and duties; annual dues; board of trustees; referendum election. (a) This section shall apply only in Blount County. (b) A district for the delivery of fire and emergency medical services may be formed in any unincorporated area of the county pursuant to this section subject to the approval of a majority of the qualified electors who vote at a referendum election for that purpose in the proposed district and for the approval of the mandatory annual dues of the district. (c) In order to call for a referendum election for the formation of a district, a petition signed by not less than 20 percent of the registered voters who reside in the proposed district shall be presented to the county commission and the Judge of Probate of Blount County. Section 36-25-1 Definitions. Whenever used in this chapter, the following words and terms shall have the following meanings: (1) BUSINESS. Any corporation, partnership, proprietorship, firm, enterprise, franchise, association, organization, self-employed individual, or any other legal entity. Section 45-37-40.02 Barber commission. (a) There shall be a barber commission for the county consisting of three members, one of whom shall be black, herein at times referred to as the commission. The present members of the commission having been previously appointed by the county commission, shall serve for the duration of their term, but in the event of a vacancy existing at the time of taking effect of this section or occurring in the future, the vacancy shall be filled, and all subsequent members of the commission shall be selected or appointed in the manner provided in this section for terms of three years. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a vacancy on the city council of a Class 6 city may be filled by either of the following ways: (1) The city council may appoint a person to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term.
