Section 11-46-9 Election commission in Class 1 municipality. In any Class 1 municipality, the mayor, the city attorney, and the president of the city council shall constitute an election commission for the city. Notwithstanding the foregoing, if either the mayor or the president of the council is a candidate for office, the mayor shall appoint a member of the city council who is not a candidate for office to serve on the election commission for the election in which the mayor or the president is a candidate. Section 11-43-20 Authority and procedure for employment. All municipalities in the State of Alabama, whether now or hereafter operating under a municipal government consisting of a mayor and aldermen or of a commission, are hereby authorized at their discretion to employ a city manager with the authority, duties, and liabilities described in this article, whose term of office and compensation shall be as prescribed in this article.
