Section 41-27-6 Appointment of the Director of the Department of Public Safety; functions of department; Highway Patrol Division; Marine Police Division. (a)(1) The Director of the Department of Public Safety shall be appointed by the Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, after consultation with the Governor, and shall hold office at the pleasure of the secretary. The director shall be appointed from a legacy agency as defined in Section 41-27-7. The salary of the director shall be set by the secretary, and shall not be subject to Section 36-6-6. Section 41-4-81 Budget Officer. (a) The division of the budget shall be headed by and under the direction, supervision and control of an officer who shall be designated the Budget Officer. The Budget Officer may be employed from within or without the classified service; such Budget Officer shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Director of Finance, with the approval of the Governor. (a) The state youth services director shall have at a minimum a master's degree in behavioral or social science or a related field from an accredited school and shall have at least six years' experience in the field of services to children and youth, with at least three years of that experience being in the field of juvenile delinquency services.
