Section 11-3-1 Qualifications of candidates for county commissioner; vacancies; composition of commission; meetings. (a) Any person who is a qualified elector of the county and has resided in the county for at least one year prior to the date upon which he or she would take office is eligible to seek office as county commissioner. In counties where the county commissioners represent a certain district, any person seeking office as county commissioner shall be a qualified elector of and reside within the district which he or she seeks to represent upon election or appointment for at least one year prior to the date that he or she would take office. (a) Any commissioner whose present term does not expire until October, 1993, shall continue to serve the remainder of his or her term, but shall represent the district in which he or she resides. (a)(1) Upon the expiration of the current terms of office of Tax Assessor and Tax Collector of Mobile County, or if a vacancy occurs in either office prior to the expiration of the current terms of office, there is hereby created the office of County Revenue Commissioner in Mobile County. The mayor and all commission candidates shall qualify as provided in Sections 11-44E-71 and 11-44E-72, respectively, and shall have the qualifications and eligibility set forth in this chapter.
