Section 45-37A-52.55 Officers. At the first meeting, which shall be held immediately following May 5, 2016, and then subsequently at the first meeting held after the election of the council after May 5, 2016, and every two years thereafter, the council shall elect an officer of the city who shall have the title of president of the council and shall preside at meetings of the council and a president pro tem, who shall act as president of the council during the absence or disability of the president. The terms of office of the president and the president pro tem shall be two years and until successors are elected and qualified. If a vacancy shall occur in the office of president of the council, the council shall elect a successor for the completion of the unexpired term. Section 11-43A-83 Powers of council; president and president pro tem. The council shall be the governing body of the municipality and shall exercise all legislative functions of the municipality. All powers of the municipality, including all powers vested by this article, by the constitution and by the general and local laws of this state, and the determination of all matters of policy, shall be vested in the council. Section 45-49A-80.01 Vacancies. Whenever a vacancy occurs in the office of mayor in the City of Prichard in Mobile County, Alabama, with six months or more remaining in the vacating mayor's term, the president of the city council shall immediately instruct the city clerk to provide for holding a special election to fill such vacancy with such election to be held no later than 60 days after such office has become vacant. Such election shall be held in the manner prescribed by law and the person elected to the office of mayor in such special election shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term.
