Section 11-51-90.2 Purchase of business license; classification of taxpayers; vehicle decals; determination of gross receipts; construction with other provisions. Section 40-9B-3 Definitions. (a) For purposes of this chapter, the following words and phrases mean: (1) ABATE, ABATEMENT. A reduction or elimination of a taxpayer's liability for tax or payments required to be made in lieu thereof. Section 11-51-90.1 Definitions. As used in this article, the following terms shall have the following meanings: (1) BUSINESS. Any commercial or industrial activity or any enterprise, trade, profession, occupation, or livelihood, including the lease or rental of residential or nonresidential real estate, whether or not carried on for gain or profit, and whether or not engaged in as a principal or as an independent contractor, which is engaged in, or caused to be engaged in, within a municipality. Section 11-51-90 Municipal business licenses; branch offices; application. (a) All municipalities shall have the following powers: (1) To license any exhibition, trade, business, vocation, occupation, or profession not prohibited by the Constitution or laws of the state which may be engaged in or carried on in the municipality. Section 40-2A-15 Alabama Local Tax Institute of Standards and Training - Creation; composition; duties. (a) There is hereby created the Alabama Local Tax Institute of Standards and Training.
