SYNOPSIS: Under existing law, a proceeding to adjudicate the parentage of a child having no
presumed, acknowledged, or adjudicated father may be commenced by the mother of the child
for the purposes of obtaining support anytime before the child reaches age 19. Under existing
law, a person claiming to be the father of a child may acknowledge paternity and provide notice
of intent to claim paternity by placing his name on the state putative father registry either
before the child's birth or within 30 days after birth. This bill would provide that if the
mother of a child alleges a person to be the father of her child, either born or unborn, the
alleged father is entitled to a paternity test. This bill would require the alleged father
to prove that the mother, by spoken word or by publication, alleged him to be the father of
her child. This bill would provide for payment of the cost of the test. A...

SYNOPSIS: Under existing law, the maximum period of probation is limited to two years for
misdemeanor convictions and five years for felony convictions. Also under existing law, longer
periods are provided for certain repeat offenders convicted of driving under the influence
to be subject to ignition interlock requirements. This bill would further clarify the probation
limitations in Act 2015-185 and would further specify that the period of probation for a person
convicted of driving under the influence for the purposes of ignition interlock requirements

in public areas. This bill would allow for the use of a registered therapy dog, as defined,
in legal proceedings when permitted by the judge to assist a victim or witness, to reduce
unnecessary emotional distress experience by a victim or witness and allow full and factual
testimony. This bill would authorize a judge to use discretionary funds to offset the costs
for a registered handler of a registered therapy dog used in a legal proceeding. A BILL TO

involving a witness or victim when permitted by the judge; to provide for the definition and
