SYNOPSIS: This bill would make an appropriation from the Education Trust Fund to the State Department of Education in the amount of $225,000 for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2017, to provide for the development of a statewide alert system to be used by K-12 school systems to notify affected personnel and local authorities of the presence of an intruder on school property.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT

To make an appropriation from the Education Trust Fund to the State Department of Education, in the amount of $225,000 for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2017.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. The sum of two hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($225,000) is appropriated from the Education Trust Fund in the State Treasury to the State Department of Education for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2017. This appropriation shall be expended by the department to develop a statewide alert system for use by public K-12 school systems to notify affected personnel and local law enforcement authorities of the presence of an intruder on school property and facilitate the preventative lock down of any affected school through a cell phone application.

Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval by the Governor, or upon its otherwise becoming a law.
