Full-time office; salary; traveling expenses.

The county superintendant of education shall devote his or her entire time to pubic school business, unless authorized to engage in outside employment by the county board of education. In counties in which the maximum salary of the county superintendent of education is not fixed by law, the county superintendent of education shall receive such compensation, including salary and travel expenses, as the county board of education shall direct. In counties where superintendents of education are elected by a direct vote of the qualified electors, the salary for the office must be fixed prior to the beginning of the term of office.
