Body: | Section 11-43-5.1 Abolition or creation of civil service system, etc., in municipality having less than 5,000 inhabitants; section in pari materia with Section 36-27-6. (a) Any law to the contrary notwithstanding, the governing body of any municipality, with a population of less than 5,000 persons, by resolution duly adopted, may abolish or create a civil service system or other personnel board for its officers and employees. Provided, however, any person holding an office or position in or who is a member of any civil service or merit system within any such municipality upon any such action by a municipality shall continue all rights, interest, and privileges vested or vesting therein. (b) The provisions of this section shall be construed in pari materia with Section 36-27-6; provided, however, those laws or parts of laws which are in conflict with the provisions of this act are hereby repealed.
