ENROLLED, An Act,

Relating to Madison County; to provide for the appointment of additional board members to the library board of the City of Huntsville.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. (a) Upon the adoption of an ordinance by the Huntsville City Council authorizing the appointment of two additional members to the library board established by the City of Huntsville, two additional board members may be appointed to the library board of the city as follows:

(1) One additional board member may be appointed by the Madison County Commission who shall be a resident of Madison County.

(2) One additional board member may be appointed by the City Council of the City of Madison who shall be a resident of the City of Madison in Madison County.

(b) The library board member appointed by the Madison County Commission may serve an initial term of two years, and thereafter shall serve a term of four years. The board member appointed by the City of Madison shall serve a term of four years.

(c) The board after the effective date of this act shall be known as the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library Board and shall establish and maintain libraries as a part of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. The board members appointed pursuant to this section shall serve without compensation and shall have the powers and duties of a member of a library board established pursuant to Chapter 90, Title 11, Code of Alabama 1975. Public libraries established and maintained by the board shall serve all citizens of Madison County.

Section 2. The provisions of this act are supplemental to existing law.

Section 3. This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
