SYNOPSIS: Under existing law, delivery of dental services to Medicaid beneficiaries is set to switch to a managed care system at the end of the fiscal year during which the Medicaid Agency conducts an evaluation of existing dental care programs for Medicaid beneficiaries.

This bill would require the delivery of dental services to Medicaid beneficiaries to continue as currently administered by the Medicaid Agency.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT

Relating to Medicaid; to amend Section 22-6-161, Code of Alabama 1975, to require the delivery of dental services to Medicaid beneficiaries to continue as currently administered by the Medicaid Agency.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:Section 1. Section 22-6-161, Code of Alabama 1975, is amended to read as follows:

ยง22-6-161.

"(a) The Medicaid Agency, with input from dental care providers, shall conduct an evaluation of the existing dental care program for Medicaid beneficiaries and, on October 1, 2015, shall report the findings of the evaluation to the Legislature and Governor.

"(b) Notwithstanding the above, the current Medicaid dental care programs shall continue as currently administered by the Medicaid Agency until the end of the fiscal year when the evaluation required in subsection (a) is reported to the Legislature and the Governor."

Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
