Body: | SB256 ENGROSSED By Senators Ross, Orr, Beasley, Singleton, Ward and Dunn A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT Relating to nondriver identification cards and parolees; to give the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections, in coordination with the Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, the authority to establish a program to issue a nondriver identification card to a resident parolee upon his or her release from prison. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: Section 1. The Commissioner of the Department of Corrections, in coordination with the Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency, shall have the authority to promulgate rules to establish a program by January 1 of the year following the effective date of this act to issue a nondriver identification card to a resident parolee upon his or her release from prison. This section may not be construed to affect the provisions of Section 32-6-12.1, Code of Alabama 1975, providing for a Class D hardship driver license program. Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
