SYNOPSIS: Existing law does not specifically prohibit an agency of the state that receives appropriations from the General Fund or the Education Trust Fund from entering into or renewing a contract with a lobbyist for lobbying.

This bill would prohibit an agency of the Executive Department of the state that receives appropriations from the General Fund or the Education Trust Fund from entering into or renewing a contract with a lobbyist for lobbying.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT

Relating to lobbying; to prohibit an agency of the Executive Department of the state that receives appropriations from the General Fund or the Education Trust Fund from entering into or renewing a contract with a lobbyist for lobbying.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. On and after the effective date of this act, an agency of the Executive Department of the state that receives appropriations from the General Fund or the Education Trust Fund may not enter into or renew a contract with a lobbyist for lobbying as those terms are defined in Section 36-25-1, Code of Alabama 1975.

Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
