| Body: | 172331-1:n:10/19/2015:JMH/tj LRS2015-3084 HB522 By Representatives Beech and McCampbell RFD Local Legislation Rd 1 12-APR-16 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT Relating to Choctaw County; proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to authorize the Legislature to fix, alter, and regulate court costs in the county and to ratify and confirm any local law authorizing any additional court costs enacted prior to the adoption of this amendment. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, is proposed and shall become valid as a part of the Constitution when all requirements of this act are fulfilled: PROPOSED AMENDMENT The Legislature, by general or local law, may fix, regulate, and alter the costs and charges of courts in Choctaw County and provide for their distribution. Any local law authorizing the levy of additional court costs in Choctaw County enacted prior to the effective date of this amendment is ratified and confirmed. Section 2. An election upon the proposed amendment shall be held in accordance with Amendment 555 to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, now appearing as Section 284.01 of the Official Recompilation of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, and the election laws of this state. Section 3. The appropriate election official shall assign a ballot number for the proposed constitutional amendment on the election ballot and shall set forth the following description of the substance or subject matter of the proposed constitutional amendment: "Relating to Choctaw County, proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to authorize the Legislature, by local or general act, to fix, regulate, and alter the costs and charges of court and to ratify and confirm any local law authorizing any additional court costs enacted prior to the adoption of this amendment.
