A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT

Relating to Class 1 municipalities; to provide for an annual expense allowance for members of the city council that will convert to salary at the beginning of the next term of office.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. (a) This act shall apply only to Class 1 municipalities.

(b) The members of the city council shall receive an annual expense allowance in the amount of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000).

(c) Beginning with the next term of office, the expense allowance received pursuant to subsection (b), after the effective date of this act, shall convert to salary and subsection (b) shall be null and void.

Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
